Innovative IoT company Senseware has ambitious plans when it comes to transforming building operations and safety. Since its founding in 2014, Senseware has rapidly emerged as an industry trailblazer in the Internet of Things (IoT) and commercial real estate sectors.
I recently spoke with Co-Founder Dr. Serene Almomen to learn more about Senseware’s origins and their vision for leveraging IoT data to protect building occupants.
As Dr. Almomen explained, “We started Senseware to connect siloed data sources and make that information actionable for facility managers, first responders and building occupants.”
Their focus stems from personal experiences where lack of building visibility created dangerous situations and complications during emergencies. For example, when a chemical spill occurred in a research lab, first responders struggled to quickly access safety data like inventories or room layouts.
By integrating sensors and databases across previously disconnected systems, Senseware aims to provide unified visibility that saves critical time during crisis scenarios. Fire crews could instantly access accurate floorplans with sensor data overlayed, and HVAC systems could automatically adjust to contain hazards.
Senseware’s two scientist-founders brought significant expertise from healthcare applications of IoT and sensor technology. Dr. Almomen herself has pioneered sensor research to diagnose and monitor conditions like Parkinson’s disease.
“We know the power of IoT to transform analytics and decision making,” said Dr. Almomen. “Now we hope to translate those lessons to create smarter, safer buildings.”
Since their launch, Senseware has achieved meteoric growth and industry recognition. The startup has secured over $13 million in funding along with multiple awards. And they already support over 100 million square feet of real estate assets for prominent customers like Oxford Properties, Publix and Avison Young.
With momentum growing, Senseware aims to accelerate IoT adoption for crisis prediction, mitigation and management. Their sensor integration and analytics offerings continue advancing rapidly. So we can likely expect more groundbreaking innovations as this startup further unleashes the power of connected technology.
